UCC Studies: History & Theology

Time: 9:00 am for 3 hours

Description: This course explores various issues and themes of history and theology in the United Church of Canada from its beginning to the present time. During the course, students will become acquainted with the church’s founding vision, denominational identity, major events and controversies and transitions in ministry and mission. Through the analysis of the doctrinal statements of the UCC, their historical origins and developments, and contemporary theologies, students will articulate their own faith statement in relation to their own experience and context and the faith of the church to reflect the needs of our time and place. Special attention will be given to what is happening in the life and work of the church and its relation to the ecumenical and wider communities toward societal and world issues.

TH500 or equivalent
