UBC Law Professor Benjamin Perrin to Present at 2025 Chancellor’s Dinner
Benjamin Perrin, Professor of Law at the University of British Columbia, will be the keynote speaker at the annual VST Chancellor’s Dinner on September 25, 2025.
Benjamin Perrin is a Professor at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, where he teaches and researches in the areas of criminal law, constitutional law, international law, and artificial intelligence. A former law clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada and legal counsel in the Prime Minister’s Office, he has advised at the highest levels of Canadian and international law, including work with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the Special Court for Sierra Leone.
Professor Perrin is an Associate of the Law Commission of Canada, serves on national advisory bodies related to victims’ rights and AI in the justice system, and leads the UBC AI & Criminal Justice Initiative. He is affiliated with the UBC Centre for Artificial Intelligence Decision-making and Action (CAIDA), and in 2023 received the King Charles III Coronation Medal for service to Canada.
He is the author of several books and policy papers, including Indictment: The Criminal Justice System on Trial (UTP, 2023) and Overdose: Heartbreak and Hope in Canada’s Opioid Crisis (Penguin, 2020). A follower of Jesus Christ, Professor Perrin brings together his legal expertise and personal faith to examine the intersection of justice and mercy in Canadian society.
The title of his keynote address is Jesus, Justice & Mercy. VST is thrilled for this opportunity to learn from him.

The 2025 VST Chancellor’s Dinner is a gathering of invested individuals who recognize the enduring need for theological education to be thoughtful, engaged, and generous, and who are courageously choosing to create that future. This year’s dinner will be held on Thursday, September 25 at the University Golf Club. Funds raised will support the Chancellor’s Award, Student Bursaries, and the Thoughtful, Engaged, & Generous Campaign for the Future. The 2025 Chancellor’s Scholars, recipients of VST’s most generous award, will be honoured and presented with certificates by Chancellor Catherine Evans. The evening will also feature music from the VST community.
