Introduction to Religious Traditions of Asia

Code: IPT517

Dates: September 8, 2025 - December 5, 2025 on Mondays

Time: 2:00 pm for 3 hours

Description: This course introduces the major religious traditions of Asia for those planning to work in ministry or spiritual care in Canada today. Each unit focuses on a tradition’s origins, development, teachings, and practices, with an awareness of its internal diversity. As we move through our survey, students will examine the geographic, historical, and social situations of each tradition through lecture, film, community visits, discussion, and readings that include primary sources in translation as well as scholarly research. This survey aims to uncover an appreciation for Canada’s rich religious landscape, our multi-faith communities, and a recognition of the varied social and individual spiritualities of our own and our neighbours’ traditions.
