Experiential Learning at the Epiphany Chapel

Description: This elective course offers students an immersive, on-the-ground experience in the early-stage development of a new ecumenical community of faith. Over the course of the term, students will engage in several modules that will focus on the strategic Spirit-led opportunity for faith community growth, with the locus for this learning being Vancouver School of Theology’s Epiphany Chapel on the campus of the University of British Columbia. Students will intentionally explore and engage how the Epiphany Chapel can extend its reach and enhance its welcome to a broader community. This course will build upon the work of PT 633 ‘Building Community’.

Prerequisites: One course in each of the following: worship, homiletics, biblical studies, theology is required. This course requires an application and Permission to Register from the Registrar.

To apply please answer the following questions (1 paragraph, 3-4 sentences max for each) and send your answers to the Registrar  (registrar@vst.edu)

  • What aspects of this course interests you the most?
  • Have you ever been involved in starting a new ministry or community of faith? If so, in what way?
  • How would you explain the value of being a part of an ecumenical community of faith?

Students may write a TFE Proposal for Leadership in Faith Community (100 hours) to have ‘Living in the Light’ as their field placement instead of taking this course for credit. Please contact Rev. Mary Nichol for more information.
