Dr. Stephen Backhouse



Dr. Stephen Backhouse (McGill, Oxford) is a political theologian who studies the changing Christian political imagination through the ages. As well as teaching extensively on the political world of the New Testament, Stephen has written a number of books and articles on power, nationalism, philosophy and church history, including the biography Kierkegaard: A Single Life, Kierkegaard’s Critique of Christian Nationalism, Black Magic in White Houses, and the Essential Companion to Christian History. Originally from Canada, Stephen has been the Lecturer in Social and Political Theology for St Mellitus College and a Dean at Westminster Theological Centre, both in the UK. He is currently the Director of Tent Theology and the host of the popular podcast Tent Talks.
