Education and Scholarship Within the Christian Tradition
The Centre for Christian Leadership is the primary Centre within VST responsible for education and scholarship within the Christian tradition. The Centre invites learners of all kinds –degree students, lay people, professionals seeking further certification, lifelong learners – to study and converse in an environment of open inquiry, interdisciplinary approach, and contextual engagement. It provides an opportunity for students to study theology building upon the core courses to achieve a certificate, diploma or degree program. Small class size and high quality faculty are committed to caring for the individual learning needs of students, and flexibility in program design allows students optimum adult education opportunities. Lectures, weekend workshops, and retreats provide opportunities for casual learners and curious inquirers to engage critical questions and ideas for Christian theology and leadership in today’s world.
The CCL is supported by its three main denominations; the Anglican Church of Canada, the United Church of Canada, and the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Students under the care of their church governing bodies for study at the CCL are prepared for completion of their diploma or degree to assume positions of leadership in congregations or alternative ministries. Our graduates have the tools to deal within the ever-shifting and uncertain context that our spiritual communities face.
Emphasis on integrating academic excellence, community and spiritual development is at the forefront of an education at VST’s Centre for Christian Leadership. As well, there is room in the Centre for those in the process of discernment regarding their future vocation, for those who are seeking continuing educational opportunities, for those looking to augment their understanding of Christian scholarship and values for practice within an already existing career, and for those engaged in their own spiritual journey.
