Gracia Prank
Moving to Canada was a long-awaited dream that became a reality on July 19, 2023, when I arrived in Vancouver. The day was a mix of excitement and anxiety as I left my comfort zone, but it was unforgettable. I met kind old ladies at a Bible Study led by a friend, who reassured me with words of comfort: “God will take care of you.” On that day, I encountered unexpected experiences, witnessing both the challenges and the existence of kindness in this new world. Language barriers were a constant companion, and at times, I questioned my decision to come here.
Amidst the struggles, I found a job, but what I longed for most was a friend. However, when I arrived at the VST campus for orientation day, my perspective shifted. The cross-cultural interactions and warm welcomes made me realize that I was surrounded by kind-hearted individuals. Professors, faculty members, and new friends became sources of encouragement.
The academic rigours at VST pushed me to deepen my studies and faith, but with the guidance of my professors, the support of fellow students, and the welcoming assistance from the institution’s staff, along with the rich resources provided, I found the strength to overcome challenges. Every day, I am reminded that I am surrounded by loving hearts, making this daunting journey not just bearable but transformative. The kindness and warmth of the VST community makes every step worthwhile.

Although she was accepted into the Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) in 2019, visa processing delays and COVID-19 impeded her move to Vancouver. Gracia has now found a place in the United Church here in Canada. Gracia is interested in church leadership and management issues, and enjoys music and occasional liturgical dance.
