Emma Stothert
Biography
Emma Stothert (nee Kathy Bedard Sparrow) B.A., M.A., is from the Haida Nation, and member of the Daadans Yaakn 7laanas Raven Clan. Emma is proud to be named after her grandmother, both her Christian name Emma, and Haida name Sandlenee. Emma is also a member of the Musqueam Indian Band, where she resides with her husband, and is close to her three adult children and two grandchildren!
Emma is a graduate of UBC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Arts degree in Anthropology. Her academic training has provided her with a thorough knowledge about Native history in BC, about colonialism and its effects on individuals and communities. She has a demonstrated ability and interest in high quality teaching; and knowledge of, and experience in First Nations/Aboriginal culture and issues, particularly as it relates to education.
As former Chair and board member for Vancouver Coastal Aboriginal Planning Committee (VCAPC), appointed by the Premier of BC, a 5-year mandate was achieved which involved extensive networking activity with Vancouver Coastal First Nations agency/service providers, leadership, and communities, and with MCFD Regional and Provincial Office.
