Biography

Andy Reimer entered the world of biblical studies always fixated on the questions of how Christian faith and cultural identity intersect. He wrote a master’s thesis on early church healing rituals in the context of first century Judaism and the larger Greco-Roman world. His PhD thesis, published as Miracle and Magic: A Study in the Act of the Apostles and the Life of Apollonius of Tyana, compared the miracle workers and magicians we find in the biblical book of Acts with the story of a miracle worker traveling around the Mediterranean world preaching Neopythagoreanism about the time Paul did his traveling and preaching. When Andy began his academic career, he spent his weekends working alongside Indigenous colleagues who were exploring the path to wholeness for Indigenous churches fragmented by the reverberations of colonialism. Andy has continued to have one foot within Indigenous theological studies ever since, most recently with the Indigenous Studies Program at VST. These days Andy finds contentment finally paying Indigenous peoples for the land he lives on in Redwood Meadows, Alberta, and serving as a warden at Christ Church Elbow Park Anglican.
