Loosening the Tongue: The Practice of Preaching with Few (or No) Notes
Code: HOM6/717
Dates: July 12, 2021 - July 16, 2021
Time: 2:00 pm for 3 Hours (PT)
In this course students will work on their capacity to preach short homilies with few or no notes which aim to create metanoia for listeners (a change in the way they see and respond to the world). The course will focus on each preacher’s words, ideas, stories, ability to make a connection to listeners’ lives and ability to create experiences for listeners that “stick” in their consciousness. In addition, we will pay attention to the preacher’s presence, use of the voice and use of the body in preaching. Students will prepare and preach five brief sermons, and will receive specific feedback from their student colleagues in the above-mentioned areas.
Prerequisites
All students are required to have completed a basic homiletics course which included instruction in and practice with Biblical exegesis.
