Indigenous Language Translation & Interpretation

This course explores Indigenous Spirituality with a focus on language and Interpretation of the bible.  Students will investigate the tools and techniques available for the retention, acquisition and integration of local Indigenous languages through the ongoing work of the interpretation and how scripture and culture are brought together. 

  1. Document the environmental, cultural, and historical influences on the Indigenous language under study and the development of the local Indigenous bible. 
  2. Relate the understanding of the students’ local Indigenous language and how it relates to the law, worship or ceremony, land and theology of said Indigenous Nation. 
  3. Compare the understanding and description gleaned in point 2 and those in the local Christian congregations. How are they the same and how are they different and how this impacts the gospel proclamation in the life of the local Church.
