PURPOSE: The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to the history of Chinese Christian Art from the Tang Dynasty to the contemporary era, while also exploring the development of Chinese Church architecture. Additionally, I will share my personal journey as a Christian artist.

Having served as a former board member of ACAA (Asian Christian Art Association) from 1998 to 2006, I will also discuss the development of localized Christian art in Asian countries during the postcolonial era. The contemporary Chinese Christian art scene, including my own artistic development, has been greatly influenced by the contextualized Christian art movement in the Asia-Pacific region.

Through this series of lectures, I hope to provide students with a window into the history of Christian missions in China, specifically focusing on how contextualized Christian art has been used to promote the Gospel within the Chinese community from ancient times to the present.
