VST announces major scholarship funding
The Vancouver School of Theology is delighted to announce the establishment of the ‘Chancellors’ Scholarship’. Each recipient will be distinguished as a ‘VST Chancellor’s Scholar’.
This award, the largest offered by VST to date, is established to assist two final year students who have demonstrated great promise for ministry to complete their studies in a timely manner, with minimal debt, so they can be out in the community providing congregational leadership.
The scholarship recipients will be nominated by the Faculty Student Review Committee based not only on their academic performance but also their potential for ministry leadership.
A generous gift from VST Chancellor, Dr. Heather F. Clarke, support by past Chancellors The Very Rev. Peter Elliott, Dr. Louise Rolston and Archbishop Douglas Hambidge, and an allocation of student support funding establishes these two scholarships in the amount of $7,000.00 each; $5000.00 towards the tuition, and $2,000.00 towards other fees and books.
Principal Richard Topping says “Strategically these scholarships are crucial now. They help us retain students, and will enable those students to have a more full-time formative experience of community at the school. It will also mean that students graduate with less debt. We are hoping that our Chancellor’s initiative will spark the imaginations of others.”
It is with great enthusiasm that the first Chancellors Scholar awards will be granted for the 2017-18 academic year and through continued donations and endowments be awarded annually.
