Master of Divinity (Ordination)

Overview of Programme
The Master of Divinity (Ordination) programme is designed for those preparing for ordination in their denomination. Each denomination has specific requirements for ordination. VST’s Master of Divinity (Ordination) programme is accepted for ordination by the United, Anglican, and Presbyterian denominations in Canada, and by the Presbyterian and United Methodist churches in the United States. Many other denominations accept all or part of this degree programme, though some require at least a year in their denominational school.

Additional Denominational Requirements
A denomination may also have expectations of candidates for ordination that go beyond the degree requirements, such as an internship year, additional biblical languages, or three months of Supervised Pastoral Education. The School can help the student meet these needs but it is the responsibility of the student to inform the School of their specific requirements.

Length of Programme
The M.Div (Ordination) degree may be completed in three years of full-time study (including the Foundational Courses) but some denominations require additional training, as noted above. There is a limit of seven years from the date of initial enrolment to the completion of this degree. A student planning to complete the degree in three years is advised to plan the programme carefully from the beginning of the first semester in consultation with the Coordinator of Academic Planning. This is a 100-credit hour programme.

Transfer Credit
VST has a relationship with UBC's Department of Classical, Near Eastern and Religious Studies (CNRS) Department that allows VST students to take any of the graduate courses offered by that department as electives. For a course listing and detailed descriptions, please see the CNRS Department web-site at www.cnrs.ubc.ca. Students are also welcome to take advantage of course offerings at Regent College. Please see www.regent-college.edu for more details.
