The Reverend Dr. James M. Lindenberger
Professor of Hebrew Bible

jml@vst.edu

Dr. Jim Lindenberger was ordained by The Presbyterian Church in the United States in 1974 and received by The United Church of Canada as a minister in 1978. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern at Memphis (Rhodes College), Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Near Eastern Studies from Johns Hopkins University, with further study at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at Heidelberg University.

His research interests focus on ancient Aramaic and Hebrew texts. He has recently completed work on an expanded edition of his anthology of ancient letters in the Writings from the Ancient World series of the Society of Biblical Literature, which is to be published by Scholars Press and Brill later this year. In the 1980's, he taught three of VST's lay education course series on the BC Knowledge Network, and in the fall of 2001, he initiated VST's first web-based M.Div. course, an online version of his Introduction to the Pentateuch residential course. He regularly teaches adult Bible classes in his local congregation, where he also sings in the church choir.
